Taunton Man Sentenced to Over a Decade for Child Rape Conviction
FALL RIVER (WBSM) — A Taunton man has been sentenced to at least a decade in state prison after his conviction for child rape and other related charges.
Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced today that Daniel Gomes, 49, of Taunton was sentenced recently to serve 10 to 12 years in state prison after pleading guilty in Fall River Superior Court to three counts of aggravated rape of a child with a five-year age difference, three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, and one count of distributing obscene matter to a child.
After his prison sentence, he will serve an additional 10 years of probation.
Victim’s Disclosure and Abuse Timeline
The victim was eight years old back in July 2022 when she disclosed the abuse suffered at the hands of Gomes, who was the husband of the girl’s older relative. Gomes sexually molested her on multiple occasions when she was between the ages of five and seven, with the rapes and sexual assaults taking place in both Brockton and Taunton.
She said Gomes showed her pornographic videos on his phone, and she recounted multiple acts of indecent assault and battery and rape that Gomes committed on her.
Additional Conviction in Plymouth County
Because of the incidents that took place in Brockton, Gomes also pleaded guilty to similar charges in Plymouth County. There, he received a prison sentence of eight to 10 years, followed by five years of supervised probation. The two sentences will run concurrently.
District Attorney’s Statement
"The defendant took advantage of his access and relationship to the young victim and repeatedly molested her,” D.A. Quinn said. “Fortunately, the victim did not have to go through a trial. The state prison sentence was well deserved.”
