TAUNTON (WBSM) — Taunton Police are investigating after a 16-year-old boy was shot early Saturday morning.

According to Police Chief Edward Walsh, officers responded at about 5:45 a.m. on August 16 to Church Street after multiple 911 calls reported gunshots.

Officers arrived to find several spent shell casings at the scene. Through investigation, they learned that a 16-year-old boy who was suffering from a gunshot wound had arrived at Morton Hospital seeking treatment.

The boy was then transferred to a regional trauma center for treatment of a wound that Walsh said appears to be serious but not life-threatening.

The shooting remains under investigation.
