The Environmental Justice Call to Action Forum is taking place on Thursday June 14 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Fairfield Inn in New Bedford.

New Bedford could be shelling out more money to deal with water quality issues in the not too distant future.

The Baker-Politio administration is awarding nearly $800,000 in federal grant money to help towns and organizations protect water quality in Buzzards Bay. The Buzzard's Bay Coalition has recieved a lion's share of the grants - $200,000 - to partner with Wareham, Bourne, Plymouth, and the Massachusetts Maritime Academy to evaluate the feasability of moving the Wareham Wastewater Treatment Facility.

The Baker-Polito administration announced on Thursday that $400,000 in grants will be awarded to six coastal communities, including two here on the Southcoast.

All New Bedford beaches have reopened to swimming on Friday.

The New Bedford Department of Public Health has announced that sections of East and West Beaches have been reopened for swimming as of Thursday, and the beach inside Fort Tabor Park has been reopened as well.
