A slim majority of Puerto Ricans sought to change their ties with the USA and become the 51st U.S. state in a non-binding referendum that would require final approval from Congress.

While many were focused on Romney vs. Obama, there were many other matters at hand on election day. That included Puerto Rico saying they were in favor of becoming the 51st State.
