Nips are not the only target of the Mitchell Administration's City of New Bedford Standard of Appearance initiative.

The New Bedford Licensing Board voted Monday to prohibit liquor stores from selling small containers with 1.7 ounces of alcohol, commonly known as 'nips.'

New Bedford and other communities should follow the lead of Wareham and Mashpee and ban the 50ml 'nip' bottles of alcohol that litter the landscape.

Falmouth and Chelsea have already banned sales of the tiny liquor bottles.

If you walk the streets for exercise as I do, chances are you've seen them in the gutter.  Or on the sidewalks.  Especially in parking lots where there are liquor stores.  I am talking about those plastic nip bottles designed to hold a shots worth of your favorite booze...
