Murder charges have been filed against a New Bedford man in connection with last Thursday's homicide in New Bedford's Near North End.

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office announced today that charges against 36-year-old Jason Valliere were upgraded to murder.

Valiere was initially charged with being an Accessory to Murder-After the Fact after he turned himself in to the New Bedford Police station Thursday night.

Javon Brown, 36 of Dartmouth, was shot outside the Metro PCS on Coggeshall Street around 12:30 p.m. He was then transported to St. Luke's Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact New Bedford Police’s Detectives Division at 508-991-6300.
