A 20 year old Fairhaven man has been charged in connection with a hit and run motor vehicle incident earlier this month that left two people seriously injured.

The District Attorney's office says William James Pires will appear Friday in New Bedford District Court.  He's facing charges of leaving the scene of personal injury, and negligent operation.

Pires is charged in connection with a February 6th early-morning incident where police found two people lying in the road, near the intersection of Sycamore and Winsor streets, apparently struck from behind.

Fifty-year old Terrence Hope of New Bedford was treated and released from St. Luke's Hospital. However, 40 year old Christine Machado of Fairhaven was air-lifted to Boston Medical Center and remains in critical condition.

The investigation was carried out by Fairhaven Detective Scott Gordon and State Trooper Christopher Dumont assigned to the D-A's office.
