According to a recent press release, New Bedford Parks, Recreation & Beaches will continue the free Grab and Go meal service for youth ages 18 and under through the Summer Food Service Program. This will take place from June 22 through August 28. The current meal service schedule at New Bedford Public Schools will end on June 17.

The department will distribute enough breakfasts and lunches for two to three days at a time. These meals will need to be refrigerated or frozen at home and will not be eaten on site.

Meals will be served on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the following locations and times:

North Route Serving Times

Riverside Park from 11 to 11:45 a.m.

Lincoln School from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m.

Campbell Elementary from 2 to 2:45 p.m.

West Route Serving Times

Keith Middle School from 11 to 11:45 a.m.

Carney Elementary from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m.

Hayden-McFadden Elementary from 2 to 2:45 p.m.

South Route Serving Times

Ashley Park 11 to 11:45 a.m.

Roosevelt Middle School from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m.

Gomes Elementary School from 2 to 2:45 p.m.

Parents are encouraged to pick up meals without their children present to promote social distancing efforts. Anyone who will be picking up meals will need to keep six feet of distance between all others and wear a mask or face covering.

New Bedford Parks, Recreation & Beaches will not have the usual Play in the Park activities due to current COVID-19 safety measures but will be offering virtual programming through the department website and social media. Take-home kits with at-home family activities and fun items will be distributed at meal sites periodically throughout the summer while supplies last.

The parks have never closed and playgrounds and splash pads will open on Monday, June 8.
