Are you turning your kids into 'sugar junkies' one spoonful at a time? If your kids are eating an average serving of a typical sugary breakfast cereal, they're eating more than 10 pounds of sugar a year!

This is contributing to the skyrocketing obesity and other health problems our children are facing! The Environmental Working Group, a Washington D.C. based health non-profit, looked very closely at more than 1,500 cereals, including over 180 marketed to children!

The group said one of the worst offenders is Kellogg's Honey Smacks with 56 percent sugar by weight! Do you recall earlier this year a documentary that made global headlines comparing sugary cereals to drug addiction? Dr. Gerald Edelman, a Dallas oncologist, says sugar is as addictive as cocaine!

Here are the top ten cereals in the study's 'Hall Of Shame' for having more than 50 percent sugar by weight:

  • Kellogg's Honey Smacks
  • Malt-O-Meal Golden Puffs
  • Mom's Best Cereals Honey-Ful Wheat
  • Malt-O-Meal Berry Colossal Crunch with Marshmallows
  • Post Golden Crisp
  • Grace Instant Green Banana Porridge
  • Blanchard & Blanchard Granola
  • Leiber's Cocoa Frosted Flakes
  • Leiber's Honey Ringee Os
  • Food Lion Sugar Frosted Wheat Puffs
