Over the weekend, tools were stolen from the construction site at Alma del Mar Charter School in the city's North End.

According to South Coast Today.com, Steven Vicente, public information officer of the New Bedford Police Department, stated that a list of items is still being compiled, but some drills and a sawzall were among the items stolen.

The tools that were stolen are estimated to have a value of $500.

The break-in was discovered Monday and it happened sometime between Friday and Monday.

Construction for the new, $17 million Alma del Mar Charter School, started this past September on the site of the former parking lot and playground of the current school.

The new school is expected to open in fall 2016 and eventually will be able to accept 450 students in grades K-8.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact Detective Mike Lopes at 508-991-6300, ext. 79510, or leave an anonymous tip at 508-961-4584.
