State officials say repairs on the Popes Island Bridge could be finished in a few months.

Michael Verseckes, a spokesman with the Massachusetts  Department Of Transportation, tells the Standard Times the concrete barriers that have been narrowing the bridge down to one lane, in each direction, should be removed by early fall.

The lanes will reopen once paving work is completed and crews have finished work on the bridge's underwater structure.

The work has been ongoing since 2011.
