Instead of going with the Governor's proposed $1.9 billion Transportation bill that included funding for Southcoast Rail, the Massachusetts House adopted a $500-million plan, that contains language that prioritizes the commuter rail project,  but contains no earmarked funding.

Speaking in New Bedford on Thursday, House Speaker Robert DeLeo says the language is an important step, and he understands what Southcoast Rail means to the region. 

DeLeo says the first step in getting commuter rail service to New Bedford and Fall River is to pass the Transportation Finance bill.
