NEW BEDFORD - Southcoast Health is now accepting applications for it's grant program.

Southcoast spokesman Peter Cohenno says last year the hospital group awarded $135,000 to 22 non-profit organizations through it's Community Benefits Impact Opportunity program. "One of the groups that we helped last year was a group called Laundry Love. They work out of a church in New Bedford and once a month they rent out a laundromat and they invite the homeless to come down and wash their clothes for free," explained Cohenno.

The program looks to bolster efforts that reduce the high rate of chronic diseases, health disparities, youth risk behaviors, and other public matters.

$125,000 in grant monies are available for the 2017 round of awards, with a proposal deadline for December 31 of this year.
