The Ideal Family for Skyl'ar

Skyl'ar would thrive with a loving, committed, and structured two-parent family, with or without other children in the home Interested families need be experienced with her special needs and can advocate and navigate and obtain the support services she requires.

Skyl'ar is of African American descent and like all youth would benefit from having pre-adoptive parents of the same racial and ethnic background; however, her social worker is open to all families willing to meet her needs. Families of different racial and ethnic backgrounds need to be firmly committed to providing appropriate ethnic and cultural role models and education regarding her birth culture which includes discussing racism and discrimination.

Potential families should be open to maintaining her relationship with her birth family, which includes phone calls and in-person visits twice a year in May and August with birth parents and siblings who live out of state.
