A New Bedford landmark will be closing next month.  The Shawmut Diner at 943 Shawmut Avenue will be closing its doors on April 1st.  The announcement was made Friday by Owners Phil and Celeste Paleologos, who have operated the diner since 1981.

The diner has been in operation since 1954, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Phil Paleologos tells WBSM News, negotiations are expected to be completed sometime next month to sell the site to Cumberland Farms.  He says the diner itself will either be sold and operated elsewhere, or put in storage.

The eatery has been featured on both the Food Channel and the History Channel.  Its been the home of a national radio program, and scenes in the movie, "Passionada" were filmed there.
