Setti Warren Faces Fundraising Gap In Run For Governor

BOSTON (AP) _ If Newton Mayor Setti Warren plans on challenging Gov. Charlie Baker in 2018, he'll be facing a daunting fundraising gap.

Warren, first elected in 2009, has announced he won't seek another term as mayor and is considered a possible Democratic rival to the incumbent Republican.

Warren has yet to publicly say whether he is running for governor.

If he does, one of his first tasks may be to start building up his campaign account.

According to state campaign finance records, Warren had just over $30,000 in his account as of mid-November.

That's compared to the nearly $4.4 million in Baker's campaign account.

Democrats are hoping to take back the governor's office in 2018.

Baker has proven to be a popular governor in a state largely dominated by Democratic officeholders.
