NEW BEDFORD — U.S. Senator Ed Markey is keeping busy during the August Congressional recess by making stops around the Bay State to promote the Green New Deal Resolution.

The junior Senator from Massachusetts will take the promotional tour to New Bedford Wednesday night, planning the event at New Bedford Vocational Technical High School for 6:00 p.m.

Markey, who famously cosponsored the legislation with Democratic firebrand U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez before it overwhelmingly failed in the Senate, has continued to be a strong co-sponsor of the bill originally introduced by Rep. Ocasio-Cortez.

Visiting the most Republican county in the state, Markey could face a challenge selling the Green New Deal to blue-collar workers from the area, particularly that of the fishing industry. The fishing industry, which is heavily dependent on oil and availability of catch, have been fighting the development of another green energy initiative – the offshore wind industry.

New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell and state Reps. Antonio Cabral, Paul Schmid and Chris Hendricks are expected to attend. Doors open at GNBVT at 6:00 p.m.
