New Bedford Police have made a second arrest in connection with a string of South End convenience store robberies. According to police, 27-year-old Matthew Patee was arrested on unrelated warrants this morning. Last week, Patee and Leland Blake Rosa attempted to rob the St. Elias Market on Rivet Street, but were met by the stick-swinging store owner. Rosa was arrested on the scene, but Patee fled the scene and checked himself into St. Luke's Hospital under a fake name, after sustaining a head injury from the store owner's defensive actions. Patee soon left the hospital after the staff kept questioning him about his injury. Police traced Patee to his girlfriend's apartment, even though she has a restraining order against him. Patee faces five armed robbery charges in connection with thefts at four South End convenience stores. Patee is also being charged with violating that restraining order. Police are continuing their investigation, which could lead to more arrests.
