U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer is joining forces with his cousin, actress and comedienne Amy Schumer, to call for tighter gun laws.

The two stood side-by-side at a news conference to propose new legislation targeted at stopping mass shootings.  The pair's plan calls for more mental health funding and awards states for submitting records into background check systems.

Speaking to reporters, Amy Schumer got choked up as she recalled the lives of the two women killed in last month's movie theater shooting in Lafayette, Louisiana during a showing of her new film "Trainwreck."   (Metro Networks Inc.)
