Roof Collapses at Former Revere Copper Site in New Bedford
NEW BEDFORD — A partial collapse of the roof at the former Revere Copper and Brass building brought officials out to the location, although they admit nothing can be done about it.
Monday afternoon, New Bedford Police received a report that a portion of the roof at the building, located at 24 North Front Street, had partially collapsed and posed a possible hazard. The building department and the New Bedford Fire Department were also notified.
Fire Chief Michael Gomes tells WBSM News that it appears the roof just gave way, and not much can be done about it.
"Just decay," he said. "It's been an ongoing issue for a number of years. Time and neglect is just taking its toll."
Gomes noted that security fencing has been put up around the building to ensure no one can get inside and be at risk by the deteriorating structure.
