MATTAPOISETT — A repeat drunk driver is arrested after he attempts to escape from police by going off-road, and then fleeing the vehicle.

On Saturday at 2:28 a.m., Mattapoisett Police stopped a white Jeep Cherokee on Marion Road for motor vehicle violations. The officer discovered the license plate did not belong to the vehicle it was attached to. The vehicle initially stopped, and as the officer approached the vehicle, it sped off, heading east toward Marion.

The officer pursued the vehicle into Marion, and then into Rochester. Once in Rochester, the vehicle proceeded onto the area of the power lines off Walnut Plain Road. The vehicle was located a short time later, unoccupied.

A search of the area located 22-year-old Kalvin Ferreira of Rochester. Ferreira was arrested by Mattapoisett Police, and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, second offense; failure to stop for a police officer; operating with a suspended license; negligent operation of a motor vehicle; unregistered motor vehicle; uninsured motor vehicle; and attaching license plates.

The Mattapoisett Police Department was assisted by Rochester Police, Marion Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police, and the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department K9 Unit.
