The Dartmouth Select Board is reaching out to Governor-elect Charlie Baker about current plans for the privately owned Smith-Robinson landfill.

State environmental officials want to cap the North Dartmouth landfill with contaminated soil trucked from the Boston area to Dartmouth.

Selectboard Chair Michael Watson says town officials fear just capping the landfill will pose a threat to residential wells in the vicinity of Hixville and Old Fall River roads.

Watson says he'll be speaking with a member of the new governor's team about the issue. the town will also publish its 36 page letter on the town's website, stating its opposition to the capping plan.
