Rhode Island ‘Minecraft’ Moviegoers Slashed By Kids With Knives
Some folks avoid going to the movies because the films are too violent, but the violence that occurred recently at one Rhode Island movie theater was all too real and not an on-screen performance by actors.
Four male suspects, ages 14 to 16, have been charged with slashing two adults outside the Apple Cinemas on Bald Hill Road in Warwick. Police say the incident happened just before midnight on Tuesday, April 15.
Providence television station WPRI reported the boys "got upset after being told to be quiet during a movie."
WLNE-TV reported the suspects "followed the three adult individuals to their vehicle where they assaulted them and 'slashed' two of them with knives."
Both stations reported that the victim's injuries were not life-threatening. Police located the boys and the weapons used in the attack not long after.
Warwick Police turned the four juveniles over to the custody of the Rhode Island State Training School, pending an appearance in Family Court.

WJAR-TV reported the incident began to unfold during a showing of A Minecraft Movie. Police Major Joel Thomas said of the victims, "One had an injury to the triceps area, and the other one had a laceration in the facial area, the forehead, I believe."
A Minecraft Movie is based on the 2011 video game Minecraft by Mojang Studios. As of April 14, 2025, the film had grossed $283.9 million in the United States and Canada, with a worldwide total of $557.7 million.
