A North Kingstown man has been charged with child molestation on accusations he touched two children inappropriately at the Newport International Polo match in Portsmouth in July.

Brian Smith was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree child molestation and one count of simple assault.

Police say a man approached two children and began talking with them and then touched them.

An investigation led police to the 52-year-old Smith, who was arrested on a warrant in Lynnfield, Massachusetts. He was originally held as a fugitive of justice.

Smith has no phone listing and it was not known Wednesday if he's represented by a lawyer.

He was released on $10,000 bail in Massachusetts and turned himself in at Newport.

Smith was released on $30,000 bail with surety.
