Season 22 of The Voice on NBC is just getting started and this week it could add a Rhode Islander to a celebrity-coached team.

It's true that numerous Ocean State residents have appeared on this singing competition, but never has a sitting governor's daughter made a team to my knowledge. That could change soon, according to Kara McKee's social media posts.

After weeks of speculation that this local singer was going to compete, the Idol Chatter website all but confirmed the news with a post last month. They seemed pretty confident with whatever inside sources the fan site has and they clearly weren't far off.

In a recent video on Instagram, McKee shared the news that she would in fact be auditioning for the judges and even revealed who she hoped would turn their chair for her.

Though we'll all have to wait and see where she actually lands, it seems pretty certain she does make a team and compete for the trophy, prize money and record deal that go with winning The Voice.

Kara does have a family band to fall back on as well. She is in the folk group Rosemere Road along with her cousins Carson and Emmery Brakke and together they recently released their debut studio album.

She'll be solo on the show, however, a fact that will likely play into her backstory when she auditions. No word on if her status as the daughter of Rhode Island's governor Dan McKee will also play into her backstory, but we wouldn't be surprised if it did.

20 Stars Who Hail From Rhode Island

Rhode Island may be the smallest state in the nation, but it has been home to many celebrities. Though some have moved here, filmed here or attended school here, only a handful were actually born here. These are those celebrities.
