For most people, becoming a local celebrity would be enough. For Dawn the Duck, apparently that was just the warm-up act. The Rhode Island duck that recently captured hearts at a New England Patriots game has now waddled her way onto the international stage, officially becoming the unofficial mascot of Scotland's Tartan Army during the 2026 World Cup festivities in Rhode Island.

When thousands of Scottish supporters descended on Providence ahead of Scotland's World Cup match, they already knew exactly who Dawn was. The viral duck had built quite a reputation thanks to her appearances around New England, including her memorable Patriots game outing that landed her on ESPN and social media feeds across the country.

Next thing you know, the Scots came calling, and yes, this is every bit as incredible as it sounds.

Dawn Leads the Tartan Army Through Providence

According to Dawn's owner, Providence resident Justin Taymes, the plan was already in motion before the parade ever began. "The guys from Scotland already knew who Dawn the Duck was," Taymes said. "They came up with the idea. They said we're going to invite the guy with the duck, put a flag on her and put her in front of the parade."

Dressed in Scotland colors and sporting a Scottish flag, Dawn proudly led members of the Tartan Army through downtown Providence as bagpipes echoed through the streets. Taymes recorded the now-viral video himself, and before long, international media outlets were sharing images of the Rhode Island duck marching alongside Scottish supporters.

From Patriots Fans to Scottish Fans

The attention Dawn received from the Tartan Army was immediate. "They were loving it," Taymes said. "Everybody wanted pictures. They'd hear about Dawn and say, 'Oh, that's Dawn the Duck. I need a picture.'"

The connection became so strong that Taymes said Dawn has effectively been adopted by the Tartan Army. "Absolutely," he said when asked if Dawn is now an unofficial member. "They love us. We love them." The Scottish supporters even ordered Dawn an official jersey before heading home.

Now, Taymes is hoping the friendship eventually leads to a trip across the Atlantic. "We've got to make a play out there now," he said. "I'll make it out there."

The Backstory Behind Dawn

For those just discovering Dawn, her rise to fame began with a simple trip to Tractor Supply. Nearly two years ago, Taymes stopped in to buy dog food and spotted a bin of newly hatched ducklings. One had been born just hours earlier and cost only $7. He brought her home, spent hours researching duck care online, and the rest is history.

Since then, Dawn has become something of a Rhode Island celebrity. She visits schools, nursing homes, hospitals, adult day care centers, autism walks and cancer fundraisers. Taymes said the goal has never been fame. "I do it to put smiles on faces because you can't buy that at the store anywhere," he said.

Dawn has also picked up sponsorships, appeared alongside celebrities, become a fixture at community events, and is currently inspiring a children's book called How Dawn Found Her Quack, a recycling-themed story Taymes is writing.

A Duck With No Signs of Slowing Down

Dawn turns two years old on June 28, 2026, making her international breakthrough a pretty impressive early birthday gift. From leading a World Cup parade through Providence to winning the hearts of soccer's most passionate fan bases, Dawn's story continues to grow in ways nobody could have imagined. Then again, most ducks don't end up with their own fan club in Scotland.

As for what's next? If the Tartan Army has anything to say about it, Dawn may soon be taking her act overseas. Judging by her track record, Scotland might want to start preparing a proper welcome for its newest feathered superstar.
