Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert reportedly paid hush money to conceal past sexual misconduct.

The "Los Angeles Times" cites unnamed law enforcement sources as saying the federal charges in Chicago date back to before Hastert served in Congress.

One official described the payments as an attempt to conceal Hastert's "sexual abuse" of a male during his time as a high school wrestling coach.

The former Illinois congressman was indicted yesterday on charges related to his alleged effort to hide three-and-a-half million dollars in payments to cover up the past misconduct.  (Metro Networks Inc.)
