A new National Park Service report shows over 9.6 million visitors to national parks in Massachusetts spent nearly $500 million at the parks in 2013.

The New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park saw over 276,000 visitors last year, 87% of those were non-local recreation visits. Those visitors to the downtown park spent nearly $14,000 and helped support 200 jobs.

The figures released Friday by the National Park Service are based on visitor surveys that were completed at the Whaling National Historical Park.
