NEW BEDFORD — A repeat drug dealer from New Bedford has been sentenced to prison.

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office says Jovani Abreu-Garcia, 23, of Spooner Street, New Bedford, pleaded guilty in Fall River Superior Court last week to charges of trafficking in excess of 18 grams of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute Suboxone.

Abreu-Garcia was sentenced by Judge Renee Dupuis to serve two to three-and-a-half years in state prison.

On February 17, 2017, New Bedford Police executed a search warrant at Abreu-Garcia's home following a lengthy investigation. In the home, police found 21 grams of cocaine, numerous Suboxone tablets, a digital scale, cut corner baggies, letters of standing, and packaging.

Abreu-Garcia had been previously convicted of firearm and drug dealing charges.

"Despite a prior conviction, the defendant continues to sell drugs that contribute to the drug epidemic that negatively impacts our communities," said Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III.
