The release date for "Star Wars: Episode 8" is being pushed back by seven months.

Disney announced the news in a press release Wednesday morning. The much anticipated film was set to debut on May 26th, 2017 but has been moved to December 15th of the same year.

Disney also says the latest installment of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise will take over the May 2017 release date.

"Dead Men Tell No Tales" was originally set to debut in early July of 2017.

The eighth episode of "Star Wars" will be written and directed by "Looper" director Rian Johnson.  (Metro Networks Inc.)
