Rehoboth Police: Woman Drove Over 80 in a 35mph Zone

REHOBOTH — An Attleboro woman with two prior drunk driving violations has been arrested in Rehoboth after police said she was seen driving more than 80 miles per hour in a 35mph speed limit zone on Monday night.

Police said 35-year-old Monique Hines has been arrested and charged with a variety of motor vehicle offenses, including driving to endanger and operating under the influence of alcohol (third offense).

According to Rehoboth police, at around 10:51 p.m. on Monday, an officer saw a white Chevy Silverado driving south on Park Street at a speed "well in excess" of the posted 35mph speed limit.

The officer began following the truck, which he said turned right onto Fairview Avenue.

Again, police said, the truck's speed exceeded the 35mph limit, at one point allegedly going more than 80 miles an hour.

According to the officer, the vehicle also failed to stay in its travel lane, allegedly coming "extremely close" to hitting several utility poles.

Another officer deployed stop sticks to halt the truck at the intersection of Fairview Avenue and Anawan Street, but police said the truck continued left onto Firetower Road before crashing into a ditch.

The driver, later identified as Hines, was taken into custody, and police said an investigation found her to be driving under the influence of alcohol.

She is charged with OUI liquor third offense, driving to endanger, failure to stop for police, resisting arrest, and driving with a suspended license.

Hines has been ordered held without bail due to an arrest warrant, and is set to appear in Taunton District Court.
