A Rehoboth woman died Saturday night when she jumped from the 17th floor of a hotel in downtown Birmingham, Alabama, according to local news sources.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Katherine R. Fiorentino, 33. Authorities say Fiorentino worked as a flight attendant.

The incident happened at 11:21 p.m. at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel. Fiorentino was staying at the hotel when other guests notified security about a woman who was acting erratically and had thrown her cell phone over a balcony wall.

Hotel security located the woman and was talking with her when she ran and jumped over the wall, authorities said. She landed on the roof of a second-floor lounge and was pronounced dead at 11:49 p.m.

A Facebook profile for Katherine Fiorentino of Rehoboth identifies her as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines who attended Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School and graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a double major in mathematics and psychology.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
