I never thought I would see this happen!  In a recent survey of New England sports fans the Red Sox have fallen into second place as fan favorites.  After the collapse last season and the way this season has been going it's not hard to see why.

The new number one team, (no surprise) is the New England Patriots, the Pat's beat the Sox in every category in the survey.  Here is how fans voted in the survey, Forty-two percent picket the Patriots as their favorite team, the Sox came in at 32 percent, the Bruins came in third with 11 percent of the voting, the Celtics had 10 percent of the votes and the New England Revolution had 5 percent of the votes.  I am surprised to see the gap between the Sox and B's so large, after all the Bruins won the Stanley Cup in 2011.

The survey also asked fans who their favorite player was, Tom Brady came in at number 2!  Brady was beat out by a litte bit by his favorite Wide Reciever, Wes Welker. Other players that were hight on the list, Kevin Garnett, Jacoby Ellsbury and Zedno Chara.  I do remember the years that the Bruins ruled the fan base in New England during the "70's", the Celtics of the 80's and 90's and the Red Sox close behind those teams during those years.

Once the Sox won the World Series in 2004 and 2007 I thought they would rule with fans for a long, long time.  Maybe this should be a wake up call to the Sox ownership to take a serious look at the team and find a way to put them back on top with the fans.
