Manufacturing offer career seekers and employers a great opportunity on the South Coast. The manufacturing industry represents seven percent of the total workforce in Southeastern Massachusetts and pays nearly 10 percent of the regions total wages.

Manufacturing features highly accessible jobs with strong entry-level wages for positions that can be obtained without advanced degrees - 73 percent of the region’s manufacturing workforce have less than a Bachelor Degree.

Occupations such as CNC Machinists and welders can be accessed through relatively short-term training programs and feature strong entry level wages ($18-$20 per hour). CNC Machinists occupation shows an impressive 18.6 percent long-term projected growth.

The regional workforce boards are offering free training programs for adults interested in careers in advanced manufacturing including welding, CNC, and machine operating. The training programs will be conducted by partners including Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical High School, Old Colony, Bristol Community College, and Upper Cape Technical High School through their adult programs. Several programs are slated to start in January.
