Raynham Shaw’s Experiences Beverage Cooler Fire
RAYNHAM (WBSM) — A fire inside of a beverage cooler at the Shaw’s supermarket in Raynham required the services of both the police and fire departments on Monday.
Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita and Police Chief David LaPlante said that on September 24 at about 11:13 a.m., their departments received a fire alarm activation at the Shaw’s located at 300 New State Highway.
Raynham Police Officers Jared Turkington and Nick Poulin were first to arrive and reported smoke and fire inside the store. They learned the fire was in a beverage cooler near the self-checkout area and used a fire extinguisher to extinguish the bulk of the fire.
The Raynham Fire Department then arrived and fully extinguished the fire and removed the cooler from the store.
There were no injuries reported in the fire, the cause of which is still under investigation by the fire department.
Because the store was filled with heavy smoke, the Middleboro Fire Department provided a large ventilation fan, the chiefs said. The Raynham Building Department and Board of Health also responded to the scene.
The scene was cleared at about 1:15 p.m. Monday, and a restoration company arrived to clean the store. The chiefs said the crews worked into the night so that the store could open again today.
Firefighters cleared the scene at about 1:15 p.m. on Monday, and Shaw's had a restoration company clean the store. The crews worked into the night, and the store opened on Tuesday.
“I'd like to thank the quick response of Raynham Police Officers Jared Turkington and Nick Poulin, who helped prevent the fire from potentially spreading much further,” Chief LaCivita said.
“Fire crews led by Deputy Chief Barrett Johnson and Capt. Jeffrey Kelleher were able to make quick work of the fire and prevent any injuries and further damage," LaCivita said.
