NEW BEDFORD — Wednesday night, the New England boxing world is converging upon Euphoria Lounge in New Bedford for a pep rally for boxer Ray Oliveira, Jr.

The rally will take place from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Euphoria, located at 289 Acushnet Avenue.

He's the son of legendary New Bedford boxer "Sucra" Ray Oliveira, and he's building quite the career in his own right, currently training at his dad's gym in the South End as he prepares for his first main event coming on February 23 at the Twin River Casino in Rhode Island.

The younger Oliveira fights out of Fall River as a junior middleweight, and is 9-1 with one KO. He'll headline in an eight-round showdown against New Haven, Connecticut veteran Edwin Soto (11-2-2, 4 KOs).

“Sucra” Oliveira will work his son's corner on Feb. 23, and will also be in attendance at the rally.

Two other New Bedford fighters are also on the card for the Twin River event: welterweight Wilson Mascarenhas makes his pro debut in a four-round bout against Miguel Ortiz (2-1, 1 KO), and featherweight Efren Nunez (0-1) faces Ricky Delossantos (3-0).
