Quick-Thinking Bystanders Push Burning Truck Away from Gas Pumps
Some quick-thinking citizens helped avoid a potential explosion this morning in Wareham.
Wareham Week is reporting that a pickup truck parked next to a gas pump at the Speedway station on Main Street caught fire shortly before 11 a.m. When the driver failed to put out the fire with an extinguisher, he and some bystanders pushed it away from the pumps and onto Main Street.
It could have been a major disaster, had the flames somehow ignited one of the pumps and caused an explosion. The gas station is located in the busy downtown area, and almost directly across from Tobey Hospital.
Luckily, the Wareham Fire Department has a station only a couple of hundred of yards away, and firefighters were able to respond quickly.
