FALL RIVER — A suspect in a May 31 purse snatching incident at the city's Walmart has been found and charged, Fall River police announced today.

Police said that based on tips from the community, Detective Luis Vertentes was able to confirm the identity of the suspect seen on surveillance video stealing a purse from an elderly woman's car.

Jeremy Rodriguez, 25, was arrested on Wednesday, June 9 and charged with larceny from a person over the age of 65 and breaking and entering into a vehicle.

On Monday, police had circulated surveillance images of the suspect, who was wearing black clothing.

Police said the male suspect followed a 76-year-old woman from the store and watched her place her purse into the trunk of her car before grabbing it and fleeing.

"The Fall River Police extends its appreciation to the community in helping us locate this suspect," read the press release announcing Rodriguez's arrest.
