FALL RIVER — Police are searching for a purse snatching suspect involved in a May 31 incident at the city's Walmart in which an elderly woman had her property stolen.

According to a press release from the Fall River Police Department, at around 1:50 p.m. on Memorial Day, officers responded to a reported purse snatching at Walmart at 638 Quequechan St.

An investigation found that a male suspect wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black mask, camouflage pants, and black sneakers followed a 76-year-old woman from the store to her vehicle.

Police said the suspect watched the elderly woman place various items — including her purse — into her trunk before she got into the car.

He then opened her trunk, removed the purse, and fled.

According to police, the victim tried to follow the suspect but lost sight of him.

Fall River Police are requesting help in identifying the person caught on surveillance footage.
