Police Seize 250 Pounds of Fish From Charter Boat in Fairhaven
A charter boat carrying Connecticut clients and 250 pounds of fresh fish was met by police when it docked at a Fairhaven marina around noon on Wednesday.
Fairhaven Police had previously notified Massachusetts Environmental Police that a possible illegal fishing trip for hire had left Fairhaven earlier that day.
Environmental Police boarded the vessel, inspected it, and say they discovered that the captain did not possess a valid Massachusetts Department of Marine Fisheries charter permit, and say the permit he did offer was for a different vessel.
The captain is now charged with violating various fishing laws and will appear in court at a later date. According to a media release, the 250 pounds of scup were seized and donated to the New Bedford Salvation Army.
WBSM is seeking further information about the incident.
