Police Seek Brockton Man in Connection to New Bedford Shooting
NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford police are on the lookout for a Brockton man in relation to a shooting that injured one person during a crowded basketball tournament at Monte's Park over the weekend.
Police said detectives from the department's major crimes division have issued a warrant for the arrest of Shane Sims, 27, of Brockton following an investigation into the Saturday shooting.
The incident took place at around 5 p.m. on Saturday, during the basketball tournament that police described as "heavily attended."
One person was hurt and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the tournament was halted as a result of the shooting.
Police said Sims has previous convictions for drug dealing and firearms-related offenses.
He currently has an open case in Brockton district court for unarmed robbery and assault.
Sims is now being charged with assault with intent to murder, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and carrying a loaded firearm without a license.
Detective Jordan Ferreira is investigating the case.
Police ask anyone with information on Sims or the Monte's Park incident to contact the department.
