Police: Middleboro Woman Was Drunk And On Drugs Before Fatal Crash

 Police say a Middleborough woman was drunk and on heroin when her pickup truck struck another vehicle head-on over the weekend, killing the 18-year-old college freshman who was driving.

Kathleen Allen was held on $100,000 bail after pleading not guilty Monday in Wareham District Court to charges including drunken driving and motor vehicle homicide. 

Killed in the crash was 18-year-old Monica DeMello of Middleborough. 

DeMello was a freshman at Gordon College in Wenham visiting her family for Easter.  Her friends are mourning her death.....

Gordon College President D. Michael Lindsay called DeMello's death ``a tragedy and a shock'' to the entire community.
