A South Dartmouth man is in custody as Dartmouth Police continue to investigate shots fired outside Miller's Homeport Saturday morning. 

According to a release, police responded to a report of shots fired at 24 Cove Rd., South Dartmouth at approximately 2:00 a.m.. No shooter was located but shell casings were recovered.

Brendan C. Furtado, 24, of 33 Delmont St., was arrested later Saturday morning for an unrelated incident by New Bedford Police but is believed to be connected to the early morning shooting.

At approximately 5:00 a.m, New Bedford Police responded to the 7-11 on West Rodney French Blvd. for reports of a disturbance.

There, Furtado was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm, possessing a firearm without and FID card and unarmed robbery.

The firearm recovered on Furtado, a 38 Taurus revolver, was stolen from a residential house break in Dartmouth in 2009 and believed to have been used in the incident at Miller's Homeport after an argument with another patron.

The incident continues to be under investigation by Dartmouth detectives.
