Police: Fatal Shooting in New Bedford’s South End

UPDATE: The Bristol County District Attorney's Office has identified the victim in Tuesday night's shooting on Dartmouth Street as 41-year old Ausarmaat Rahotep of New Bedford. He was found by police just before 10 pm outside 139 Dartmouth Street.

He was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital but died in the emergency room at 10:16 pm. A medical examiner will conduct an autopsy. The District Attorney's Office said because of the nature of the investigation, no further information can be released at this time.

NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Police report a fatal shooting Tuesday night on Dartmouth Street, near Rural Cemetery.

Public Information Officer Lt. Nathaniel Rodriquez told WBSM News that officers responded to the 130-block of Dartmouth Street around 9 p.m. Tuesday and found the victim, who later died.

He said any further information will come from the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.

Callers to WBSM said police were back at the scene this morning continuing their investigation.
