A Plymouth woman is charged in the death of her two-month-old son, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced.

On Friday, a Plymouth County grand jury returned one indictment charging Tara Chevalier, 39, with reckless endangerment of a child in the death of her infant son, Carter Chevalier.

According to the D.A.’s Office, Plymouth Police responded at about 2:30 p.m. on June 14, 2021 to two 911 calls from Tara Chevalier reporting that she was suffering a medical episode, and that her baby was deceased. Police and EMS responded to the Marc Drive address, where Chevalier was treated by first responders and transported to the hospital. The D.A.’s Office did not reveal the nature of the medical episode in its press release.

Investigators also located an unresponsive male infant in a bassinet, the D.A.’s Office said. The infant was determined to be deceased and identified as Carter Chevalier.

An investigation was conducted by Plymouth Police and Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Plymouth County D.A.’s Office. The investigation and the indictment allege that Chevalier, “as the infant’s mother and primary custodian, failed to take reasonable steps to engage in medical treatment for the infant,” the D.A.’s Office said.

She will be arraigned in Plymouth County Superior Court at a later date.
