Orleans Chipmunk Rescue Shows Dangers of Decorations
All along the SouthCoast, people love to decorate their yards. Season after season, new signs, lights and more go up on thousands of lawns across the area with most homeowners only thinking of how their yard looks when they are done.
But what about how safe their yard may be when it's done?
Some items at your home may be more dangerous to the wildlife around you than you think, such as the Cape Cod lobster trap than caught more than a lobster.
A tiny young chipmunk was recently trapped on someone's lawn out in Orleans and ended up barely responsive. Then in stepped Wild Care Cape Cod. These amazing animal rescuers brought the Eastern chipmunk back from the brink and gave him a second chance at life.
According to the folks at Wild Care, the wildlife rehabilitation center on Cape Cod, this poor little guy was likely trapped in the lawn lobster pot for days and after a couple of very cold nights ended up hypothermic, dehydrated and in desperate need of care. Luckily, the homeowners noticed him just in time and were able to get him the help he needed.
Most likely, they didn't even know their lobster trap could be so dangerous out of the water, but according to Stephanie Ellis, the Executive Director of Wild Care Cape Cod, there are many items in your yard can be quite hazardous to the wildlife around you. Knowing which items are risky and how to reduce their risk can mean the difference between life and death for animals of all kinds.
