OPINION| Brian Thomas: Amaral’s Passion Makes Him a Shoo-In
I'm not here to handicap, but it's difficult to fathom the lone incumbent not getting re-elected to the New Bedford School Committee. The city has four candidates vying for elective three seats.
I can question Josh Amaral's judgment. His votes nearly rubber stamp the Superintendent's recommendations. Amaral reluctantly justifies the means of staff retention to welcome the end gain of less state oversight. He realizes the budget is bloated, yet willing acknowledges he'd spend more tax dollars on the schools if he could.
I will never question Josh's passion for the system that he is a product of. Amaral always listens and speaks to teachers and parents, shows up at educational meetings and has bubbling youth on his side. I also appreciate Amaral's willingness to aide new members to the committee, if he's re-elected. Nothing like the kid showing the adults the ropes.
