One man has died following a shooting Thursday afternoon outside the Metro PCS, at the corner of Coggeshall Street and Belleville Avenue, in New Bedford's Near North End.

Gregg Miliote, a spokesman with the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, says police received a 9-1-1 call around 12:30 p.m. about a shooting at the Metro PCS store at 209 Coggeshall Street.

Jayme Besse, an army veteran, was driving through a traffic light when he saw the shooting occur.

Besse says he and another person tried to treat the victim's wounds until medical personnel could arrive.

The victim, identified as a 36-year-old male, was taken to Saint Luke's Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the New Bedford Police’s Detectives Division at 508-991-6300.
