The Dartmouth Select Board wants residents to know what they'll be voting for on Tuesday, April 5.

At Monday's meeting, the architects behind the police building renovation project gave a final presentation on the design voted for at town meeting this past october.

Town Administrator David Cressman stressed that voters should expect the $8.4 million price tag to be missing from the ballot.

"It's the way the law's written. You can not put a dollar amount into the question. So, I don't want the public to beleive that people are not trying to be transparent with this," Cressman said during the meeting.

While officials say the wording of the ballot question will be a little confusing, it will essentially ask voters to approve borrowing money to pay for the project, similar to  when Dartmouth's new high school was built.

By doing so, taxpayers can expect an additional $36.22 per year to their taxes along with the $36.56 left over from the high school debt exclusion. Both increases will lower gradually over time, with taxpayers expected to be finished paying for the police station in 2035.

Architect Allen Lieb and Principal Richard Pomroy lead the presentation, giving an overview of each floor and the work needed to ensure the building's mold problem won't come back.

Lieb pointed out a specific coating agent, called evonik, that will be used on the outside bricks. According to Lieb, the coating will allow moisture to evaporate out of the bricks, but won't let water in.

While a number of officials urged residents to vote 'yes' on the ballot question, Deputy Police Chief Robert Szala says anyone with doubts about the project can meet him the day before the election.

"I'll stay at the station, I'll be in the back mod-space building and answer anybody's question, and give anyone a tour that wants to see what we're up against," Szala said. "Because, it's unprofessional, and this project here will help us move forward."

The police station has been closed for nearly two years due to severe mold problems. The Dartmouth Police are currently operating out of modular buildings located in the building's parking lot.
