Area residents are being warned of a potential scam making it's way throughout the Southcoast. Several people have reported receiving phone calls from a person claiming to be an NSTAR representative, who will then offer the customer rebates for three years. NSTAR spokesman Mike Durand says NSTAR does offer rebates, but usually the customer is the first to contact NSTAR.

Durand says if you're contacted by somebody claiming to be an NSTAR representative, ask for proof of their affiliation. Durand says all legitimate NSTAR employees carry photo id's for such purposes.
